How do Buick and GMC incentives work in Houston?
In Houston, a Buick or GMC incentive is an offer from General Motors that attaches to one specific vehicle, and what it is worth to you depends on your trade, how you pay, and what Texas adds on top. The way to use one is to ask for the total on that vehicle and compare whole deals.
We are Group 1 Buick GMC South, a Houston Buick GMC store, and we show the offer, the trade value, and the terms on the specific vehicle. The number that matters first is different for each Houston buyer.
Keep reading below, then schedule a test drive in Houston. Bringing your own numbers to the lot settles this faster than any spec sheet.
A Houston trade-in lowers the price Texas taxes you on
A trade-in is the one incentive you bring with you, and Texas treats it as a cut to the taxed price. Texas charges motor vehicle sales tax of 6.25% on the sales price minus any trade-in allowance (Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, 2026). Every dollar of allowance on your trade is a dollar of the purchase that Texas does not tax.
That makes the trade the first line to read on a Houston deal. A driver with a truck to trade has two separate things to weigh. One is what the trade is worth. The other is what the manufacturer’s offer on the new vehicle is worth. They sit on different lines of the same deal, so ask to see each one on its own.
You can value your trade online before you visit, and the value applies toward the purchase. Bring that number with you and the conversation about the new vehicle starts from solid ground.
A Houston driver whose lease is ending has no trade to apply. That buyer should ask which offers attach to a loan and which attach to a lease. Ask what the allowance is, whether the offer applies to a loan, a lease, or both, and whether it combines with the trade. Three answers, written down for one vehicle, tell you more than any advertised headline.
A starting price is only the first line of a Houston total
Every incentive is measured against a price, and the published starting price is the first number in a Houston deal, never the last. Buick and GMC publish starting prices that leave out destination freight, tax, title, license, and dealer fees. Those are the manufacturers’ suggested prices for the 2026 model year, and they are national figures. They are never a price at our store, because we show pricing on the specific vehicle in front of you.
| Model and trim | Body style | Manufacturer starting MSRP |
|---|---|---|
| Buick Envista Preferred | SUV | $24,700 |
| GMC Terrain Elevation | SUV | $30,400 |
| GMC Sierra 1500 Pro | Pickup | $38,300 |
| GMC Acadia Elevation | SUV | $43,600 |
| Buick Enclave Preferred | SUV | $46,600 |
| GMC Sierra HD Pro | Pickup | $47,000 |
| GMC Sierra EV Elevation | Electric pickup | $62,400 |
The spread is wide. A flat dollar amount weighs more on a $24,700 Envista Preferred than on a $62,400 Sierra EV Elevation, so the same offer changes a different share of each price. Read any offer against the price of the exact trim you are shopping.
Texas adds its own lines after the sticker. Texas dropped the safety inspection for non-commercial vehicles on January 1, 2025, but every vehicle still pays a $7.50 inspection program replacement fee at registration, and a new, unregistered vehicle pays an initial $16.75 fee to cover two years (Texas Department of Public Safety, 2026). Add those to the tax from the trade-in section and you have the Texas side of the total.
Our Houston Buick GMC South store works through this list with you, line by line. The Constitution we follow is plain: straight answers on price, trade value, and financing, with no hidden fees.
Houston truck buyers should price the exact cab, bed, and drivetrain
Truck selection is what our own customers talk about most, and a truck is where a vague offer costs a Houston buyer the most. GMC starts the Sierra 1500 Pro at $38,300, the Canyon Elevation at $38,900, and the Sierra HD Pro at $47,000. Those are starting points, and the same nameplates climb to $84,400 for the Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate and $94,200 for the Sierra HD Denali Ultimate.
An offer on “a Sierra” says little until it names the trim, the cab, the bed, and the drivetrain. That is why we show pricing and terms on a specific unit, including cab, bed, and drivetrain on a truck. You see the offer attached to the truck you would drive home, and you can compare it with another truck in our lot.
Houston truck buyers come with different jobs in mind. A contractor may want the Sierra Cab Chassis for work and upfit. A family that tows on weekends may want a Sierra 1500 or a Sierra HD. A commuter may want a Canyon. Each of those is a different configuration with a different starting price, so each one carries a different total.
Start with the work the truck does and let the configuration follow. Then ask for the offer, the trade allowance, and the Texas fees on that one truck. If a comparison between two trucks matters to you, keep it inside the GMC family, trim against trim and cab against cab, where the prices line up. A Sierra 1500 SLE at $48,700 and a Sierra 1500 Elevation at $50,500 differ by $1,800 in starting price, and the offer on each can change the gap.
A Houston family should compare the whole monthly cost of a three-row SUV
A family choosing between SUVs should compare monthly totals, because an offer on the vehicle is only one part of what a Houston household pays each month. Insurance is the part many buyers forget. Insurify’s analysis of more than 250 million quotes puts Texas full-coverage insurance at $2,449 a year, or $204 a month (Insurify, 2026). Liability-only runs $1,320 a year, or $110 a month.
Now set that beside the starting prices. GMC lists the Acadia Elevation at $43,600, and Buick lists the Enclave Preferred at $46,600. The GMC Yukon Elevation starts at $69,600 for families who want the largest of the three. A smaller GMC Terrain Elevation starts at $30,400.
A lower sticker on one vehicle and a higher sticker on another can reverse once the payment, the insurance, and the Texas fees are counted. So add the insurance figure to the payment before you compare two vehicles. An offer that trims the payment on a higher-priced SUV can leave you in a different place than the same offer on a smaller one.
Dependability belongs in the family conversation too. The Buick Enclave is one of four General Motors model-level award recipients in the J.D. Power 2026 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study. That is a record of how the vehicle holds up, and it matters on a vehicle you will drive for years.
Ask us to price two SUVs side by side with the same trade and the same way of paying. Then the offer on each one is easy to see.
A Houston buyer eyeing the Sierra EV pays a $200 yearly Texas fee
An electric truck changes the Texas side of the total, and that is where an offer on a Sierra EV needs a second look. Texas assesses fully electric cars and trucks of 10,000 lbs. or less an annual $200 fee at registration renewal, and $400 for new electric vehicles issued two years of registration. All standard registration fees still apply, and the fee does not apply to hybrid vehicles (Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, 2026).
GMC lists the Sierra EV Elevation at $62,400, the Denali at $69,700, and the AT4 at $79,300. A buyer weighing the Sierra EV Elevation against the Sierra 1500 Elevation at $50,500 is comparing two GMC pickups with different starting prices and a different Texas fee. Put the $200 a year into the comparison, along with the offer on each truck, and the true gap shows.
The questions a Houston electric buyer asks are practical. Where will the truck charge, and what does the yearly fee add? What does the offer on the Sierra EV change in the payment? We answer them on the specific vehicle, so you read one set of numbers.
GMC’s own results show real interest in the truck. GMC delivered 7,996 Sierra EV pickups in the United States in calendar year 2025, up 347.2 percent from 1,788 in 2024 (General Motors Company, 2025). Interest like that is a reason to price one carefully rather than assume an offer carries over from a gas truck.
How Group 1 Buick GMC South helps a Houston buyer weigh one offer
We help a Houston buyer by putting the offer, the trade, the financing, and the Texas fees on one vehicle and reading them together. Our finance center offers both loans and leases, so the same team can price an offer either way. That matters when an offer applies to one and not the other.
A new vehicle can be purchased from home through our online buying platform. A CarBravo purchase can be continued online or in person, so you choose where to finish. We also offer a 10-day/500-mile vehicle exchange program, and it carries an asterisk that points to a disclosure, so read the disclosure before you rely on it.
Our resources include a Beck Masten Luxury Lease Package, and we offer everything it includes. After the sale, our in-house parts, tire, and collision centers keep the vehicle in one place for the life of the vehicle.

What can a Texas store charge as a documentary fee?
Texas sets no hard dollar cap on a dealer documentary fee. Under Texas Finance Code Section 348.006 and the OCCC rule at 7 Texas Administrative Code Section 84.205, a seller needs no notification or cost analysis for a fee of $225 or less, and must provide both for a fee above $225 (Texas Office of Consumer Credit Commissioner, 2024). Ask for any documentary fee in writing on the vehicle you are pricing.
What do GMC trucks start at for 2026?
GMC lists the Canyon Elevation at $38,900 and the Sierra HD SLE at $54,000. The Sierra EV Denali starts at $69,700. These are national starting prices that leave out destination freight, tax, title, license, and dealer fees.

In Houston, a Buick or GMC incentive is worth what the total says
A Houston buyer with a trade should start with the trade, a truck buyer should start with the exact cab, bed, and drivetrain, a family should start with the monthly total, and an electric buyer should start with the Texas fee. For the southeast Houston buyer who wants a GMC truck or a Buick SUV and a low-pressure experience, we are the local option, and many of you still find us as Beck and Masten Buick GMC South. We handle the finance, service, and parts after the sale, so one team knows your vehicle. In every case, an offer is worth what the whole deal says once it is written out for one vehicle.
